Description:
Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) held a Thanksgiving Mass on December 2, 2024, to celebrate the turnover of the San Fernando International Seaport from PPIC to PPMC/BCDA after waiting for 25 long years. The event, led by PPMC’s President & CEO, Atty. Felix S. Racadio, was attended by PPMC Directors Mr Bill Flores and Mr. Nicky Oller, as well as PPMC’s Mancom, staff, and Security Guards.
During the event, PPMC President & CEO Atty. Racadio shared an important message from Hon. Lucas Bersamin, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and now the Executive Secretary to His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. He emphasized ES Bersamin’s advice that: Past is past. Set aside any differences. The President is very interested in the development of Poro Point. Atty. Racadio underscored PPMC’s commitment to this goal saying, “In faithful obedience and compliance with this marching order echoed by BCDA, let us work hard for the fulfillment of this noble endeavor. However, we must remain vigilant against the temptation of corruption and the coming of smugglers that could ruin the purpose for which we are here. This project is significant with projected income that will stem from the seaport.”
The turnover is considered a vital step toward promoting regional development and boosting economic activity in the area.
The Poro Point Freeport Zone used to house the former Wallace Air Station. The enactment of Republic Act 7227 (Bases Conversion and Development Act) on March 19, 1992 and Proclamation No. 216 on July 27, 1993 effectively transferred the stewardship of the Freeport to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to facilitate its conversion into a productive economic growth center.
