Description:
Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) participated in the Technical Working Group meeting of the Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, conducted jointly with the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation, on March 9, 2026.
Together with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and its subsidiaries — Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) — as well as representatives from the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), PPMC served as one of the resource speakers to discuss the proposed amendments to Republic Act No. 7227.
As part of the proposed amendments filed under Senate Bill No. 1211 and Senate Bill No. 1733, it seeks to allow BCDA and portions of its ecozones to be developed as integrated communities with housing, schools, and essential services.
During the meeting, PPMC Chairman Hon. Nicky A. Oller, PPMC President & CEO Hon. Servillano C. Flores, Jr. together with Board of Directors Member Atty. Franco Paolo Lasam also paid a courtesy call to retired Major General Edgardo Rene Samonte, Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate of the Philippines.
The Poro Point Freeport Zone used to house the former Wallace Air Station. The enactment of Republic Act 7227 (Bases Conversion and Development Act) on March 19, 1992 and Proclamation No. 216 on July 27, 1993 effectively transferred the stewardship of the Freeport to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to facilitate its conversion into a productive economic growth center.
