Description:
On June 5, 2026, marks another milestone in the development of the Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ) as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) formally turned over various completed infrastructure projects to the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC).
The turnover ceremony was led by BCDA President and CEO, Engr. Joshua M. Bingcang, and attended by key officials from both BCDA and PPMC.
Also present during the ceremony were PPMC Chairman Hon. Nicky A. Oller and President and CEO Hon. Servillano C. Flores, Jr., along with officials and personnel from BCDA and PPMC. Province of La Union Governor Hon. Mario C. Ortega likewise graced the event, highlighting the significance of strong partnerships and collaborative efforts in promoting regional development and economic progress.
The completed projects reflect BCDA’s continuing commitment to advancing facilities and enhancing the operational capabilities of the Zone. These include the Rehabilitation of the Control Tower, Provision of CCTVs, Construction of the Administrative Building, Repair of the Fire Station, Rehabilitation of the Customs Clearance Area (CCA), and Installation of Cyclone Fences.
These infrastructure improvements are expected to strengthen safety, security, and operational efficiency within the PPFZ, further supporting PPMC’s mission of promoting sustainable development and positioning Poro Point as a premier gateway for investment, trade, and tourism in Northern Luzon.
The Poro Point Freeport Zone used to house the former Wallace Air Station. The enactment of Republic Act 7227 (Bases Conversion and Development Act) on March 19, 1992 and Proclamation No. 216 on July 27, 1993 effectively transferred the stewardship of the Freeport to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to facilitate its conversion into a productive economic growth center.
