BAYgainvillea Project Soft Launch at the Poro Point Baywalk

September 16, 2025

AUTHOR: JGCB

Description:

Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC), in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of La Union, Inc. (CCILU INC); the Association of Tourism Industries and Networks in La Union; and the Department of Trade and Industry La Union, launched the BAYgainvillea Project at the Poro Point Baywalk on September 16, 2025.

The event marked the beginning of a shared vision to transform the Poro Point Baywalk into a vibrant and community-nurtured space. The soft launch highlighted the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a bougainvillea cultivation orientation, and the planting of bougainvillea and ilang-ilang trees. Bougainvillea, as the official flower of the Province of La Union and the City of San Fernando, represents resilience, color and growth.

PPMC remains committed to partnering with the community in the beautification of the Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ) and in advancing environmental stewardship.

The Poro Point Freeport Zone used to house the former Wallace Air Station. The enactment of Republic Act 7227 (Bases Conversion and Development Act) on March 19, 1992 and Proclamation No. 216 on July 27, 1993 effectively transferred the stewardship of the Freeport to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to facilitate its conversion into a productive economic growth center.
