Description:

Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC), in collaboration with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University South La Union Campus and Fisheries Research and Training Institute (DMMMSU SLUC-FIRT), jointly held a seaweed soap-making livelihood training event at the San Agustin Barangay Hall, City of San Fernando, La Union, on October 28, 2024. A total of 35 participants from Barangays San Agustin, San Vicente, San Francisco, Canaoay, and Poro attended the training.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility Program – Health, Education and Environment, Livelihood Program, and Strengthening Linkages/Sports (HELPS), PPMC funded this noble project. It aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to establish their own seaweed soap-making businesses. The project not only provides a source of income but also an alternative livelihood activity during the rainy season, when fishing is typically limited.

PPMC remains committed to empowering the local community and fostering sustainable economic development.

The enactment of Republic Act 7227 (Bases Conversion and Development Act) on March 19, 1992 and Proclamation No. 216 on July 27, 1993 effectively transferred the stewardship of the Freeport to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to facilitate its conversion into a productive economic growth center.
